Anna from America and Markus from Norway met during their first weekend
on campus at Duke University. The attraction between these young student-athletes was immediate, sparking a love that endured even through
years of long-distance as Markus played professional football in New Zealand
and Scotland. Does it sound like
the beginning of a romantic movie? This script was written by life itself!
After ten years together, they decided to settle in London.
In the summer of 2023, they got engaged in Regent’s Park Rose Garden, amidst a light rain and in the presence of both families. Given their shared
time studying in Bologna and their love for Italian culture, they immediately agreed on an Italian wedding. A year and a half later, they exchanged
vows in Apulia at the Chiesa Matrice della Santissima Trinità in Manduria.
The ceremony, held at the traditional time of 5:00 PM, took place on a Friday at the end of May, seamlessly transitioning into a weekend celebration at Vinilia Wine Resort. “We wanted our wedding to be natural and authentic, just like us.
Slightly luxurious, but relaxed, intimate, and focused on people, music, and memories,” Anna explains. The understated floral arrangements complemented both the resort and the richly decorated church interior.
Music framed every moment: an Italian folk band at Thursday’s
welcome party, a violinist during the ceremony, a saxophonist for cocktails,
a jazz DJ at dinner, a live band featuring singer
Brian Lucas, followed by a DJ into the early morning. Markus meticulously curated playlists for each part of the day,
and they still listen to them today.
The third day featured a pool party with games, watching the Champions League final, and dancing. “We didn’t adhere to any traditional customs;
we planned everything the way we wanted. Extending the wedding over three days was the best decision. It was amazing to
see our friends and family — from over 14 countries — getting to know each other, having fun, and forming new friendships,” Mark concludes.
