TENIELLE & PAUL
A grand wedding without a single flower? Yes, it’s possible! Get inspired.
The meeting of actress and marketing agency owner Tenielle and doctor Paul wasn’t exactly poetic, but their wedding looked like something out of a royal family film. The couple met on the dating app Bumble, and their connection was instant. After six years together, a breathtaking proposal followed.
Tenielle and Paul traveled to Norway to witness the Northern Lights.
Paul organized a private tour, and, with the help of an excellent guide,
they visited several locations
to see the stunning aurora borealis. At one such spot,
Paul pulled out a ring, and the guide secretly recorded the unforgettable moment. Although the couple is originally from Australia, they chose Amsterdam, their home of over five years, as the setting for their wedding.
Guests included friends and family from both Australia and the Netherlands.
The ceremony and the celebration took place at an unusual venue — a restoration workshop for French antique mirrors owned by Anouk Beerant.
The owners graciously provided the space and recommended exceptional catering that delivered a four-course plated menu and replaced
a traditional cake with a handmade ice cream bar.
Tenielle and Paul wanted their wedding to be intimate, personal, and meaningful in every detail. They decided to forego traditions, including floral decorations. “We wanted to create a wedding with minimal waste, so we completely skipped flowers. Instead of floral arrangements, we went all out with candles.
Instead of place cards, each of our 40 guests received a personal letter with a photo of one of our favourite memories with them, and instead of a printed menu, we asked the chef to personally introduce and describe each course,” Paul explains.
And how did the bride replace the traditional bouquet? Absolutely brilliantly. Tenielle’s grandmother, who once earned a living sewing ties, created a clutch from her late husband’s ties. “I placed our wedding vows and rings inside the clutch. Before we exchanged rings, the clutch was passed around among the guests, and each of them offered their blessing for our marriage.
This all happened while my cousin, the singer Royal Bowie, performed an original arrangement of our song This Must Be The Place by the Talking Heads.
It was incredibly moving. It felt as if my grandfather was there with me, holding my hand,” Tenielle recounts.
Due to the weather, one planned surprise — transporting the guests to the venue by a canal boat — couldn’t happen. However, the bride and groom’s hotel stepped in, letting them take over the lobby bar instead.
The extraordinary day concluded with dancing and cocktails
at a neon Japanese cyberpunk bar.
