If there’s a world you can safely lose yourself in, it’s the world of wedding fabrics. Our guide will be Jana Řehořová, who, after quitting her career in IT, bought a failing fabric shop, started offering sewing classes (including classes for kids) and created a place where designers can take their clients, where you can get a pair of trousers repaired at friendly prices and where a new generation of tailors is growing up.
Colours and shades
Choosing a fabric for your wedding dress isn’t easy. Jana Řehořová, the owner of Textil Forum, knows every yard of fabric in her shop in Prague’s Vinohrady district. And no surprise – she buys directly from European producers and guarantees not only top quality, but also that the fabrics were made in good working conditions and without child labour. The first thing Jana will ask you is when and where the wedding is and whether there’s going to be a colour theme. “Because pure white or ivory isn’t always suitable,” Jana points out, adding on the subject of colours: “We strictly keep all materials in white and two shades of ivory, so it can’t happen that the shade of the embroidered tulle or veil doesn’t match the dress.”
Dream fabrics for dream dresses
As soon as you’re standing in the doorway, you can tell that Jana is a stickler for detail. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know precisely what you want your wedding dress to look like. At Textil Forum they have test skirts prepared, so you can get an idea how various shapes and volumes will work. And it’s no problem to put together the right dress for you from photos you’ve taken when visiting bridal salons. Jana works with a number of designers and dressmakers and is happy to recommend them to you. Silk satin from Italy, French lace, embroidered tulle from Portugal, Greek organza... a visit to Textil Forum will make your wedding dress dreams come true.
