TRADITIONALLY MODERN WEDDING DAY IN PORTLAND
Fresh, fun, fundamentally traditional but with a modern twist. These were the key words that fiancés Kenzie and Spencer came up with when planning their wedding in Portland, OR. They met in college where they were both studying graphic design, started dating soon after and married four years later. Both families were involved in planning the wedding. "Instead of a wedding coordinator, I asked my mom and future mother-in-law to help. And it was a great move, we enjoyed the planning and I dare say our wedding day perfectly captured Spencer and me," Kenzie praises. Because the weather in the Northwest is unpredictable, an indoor wedding was the obvious choice, and the newlyweds were able to find an airy, industrial space. "We were thrilled with the modern elements - steel beams and concrete floors, paired with traditional brick walls. Plus, we wanted a venue that could host the ceremony and reception, accommodate all 130 guests, and still feel intimate," Spencer explains. Adding dignity to the church ceremony was the floral arrangement, which consisted of an unusual grouping of mature houseplants. To ensure the floral arrangements did not evoke tropes, the bride and bridesmaids' bouquets were tied with white and pink flowers. Although the wedding day was rainy, soft afternoon light streamed in through the large windows. A buffet of Italian delicacies and carefully chosen music awaited the guests. "Music was a very important part of our wedding. We thoughtfully put together a playlist for each part of our day. Spencer's father passed away a few years ago and we wanted to remember him at our wedding, so the same song - Always by Atlantic Starr - played at our first newlywed dance as it did at Spencer's parents' wedding," recalls Kenzie. The answer to the question of whether the newlyweds would change anything about their wedding can be seen in the photos.
