BARBARA & LUKÁŠ
French Impressionist Claude Monet’s paintings of water
lilies hold a fascination for many people, but few design their wedding in the paintings’ romantic style and colour palette like Barbara
and Lukáš did. The couple from Bratislava now live in the Netherlands, Lukáš proposed in Ireland, but for logistical reasons the couple decided to get married
in Slovakia. “While looking for a venue we came across
a blog showcasing eleven special places in Slovakia, one of which was the Wieger Villa. It was love at first sight.
We liked the idea of having the ceremony in a charming garden beside the Svätý Jur vineyards and the reception inside the villa,”
says Barbara, describing the couple’s dream location. The preparations took a year and a half. They opted for a part-planned system, meaning that the Holubica wedding agency guided them through the planning process
and coordinated the wedding day itself, but the couple themselves communicated with the various suppliers.
The date of the wedding was deliberately set for 9 May, the date of Barbara’s grandparents’ wedding just over fifty years earlier.
A May wedding means abundant greenery and lots of seasonal flowers, whose colours matched the Monet concept of the wedding. The water lily motif featured on the invitations and stationery and even on the cake, and instead of a photo booth,
the wedding guests could have their portrait painted in watercolours.
The civil ceremony took place at 4 pm in the garden,
after which the 57 guests moved inside the villa where a festive plated menu awaited them, a mix of classics and slightly unconventional dishes.
There was a buffet about an hour before midnight and the entertainment continued with a DJ until 4 in the morning. After the revelry,
the newlyweds flew straight to Vietnam for their honeymoon, two weeks spent travelling the country from north to south.
“The materialisation of Monet’s Water Lilies as the inspiration and theme of the whole wedding exceeded our expectations. It added an unforgettable emotional
layer to the event. Thanks to the amazing coordinator and suppliers,
we were able to enjoy our big day without worries and stress. We loved everything about our wedding.” There are perhaps only
two things they would have changed. “We would have tried even
harder to imprint every second on our memories, and I’d have practised the
first dance in an outfit similar to my wedding dress so I didn’t get so caught up in it,” Barbara says with a smile.
