LYDIA & ADAM

It’s a bright, crisp day, just after one in the afternoon on the 2
nd of December. Close your eyes and imagine you’re walking down the aisle
in a London church decorated with white flowers, while music composed especially for you fills the massive space. The beautiful singing of the church choir
melts the hearts of everyone present. Wearing a stunning dress,
you’re about to say “I do” to the love of your life...
Gorgeous, fairy-tale, traditional, wintry, English – that was the wedding of Lydia and Adam, who tied the knot four and a half years after they met.
Lydia is in the music industry and has worked as a model; Adam is a doctor.
He proposed on a beautiful sunny day in the gardens of Stourhead House, where the
couple were spending a winter weekend at The Newt in Somerset.
Both the ceremony and the celebration took place in London’s
upmarket Mayfair district. They exchanged vows in the 18th century
St George’s Church, with its majestic exterior and interior;
and then the banquet for 110 guests was held at the nearby Savile Club, where Adam has been a member for years. The couple took care of all the planning,
and they have nothing but praise for the friendly helpfulness of the club’s staff. They had both the church and the club’s rooms decorated with white flowers,
and the festive atmosphere was enhanced by the multitude of candles reflecting off various gold accents. “On a bright winter morning I woke up at
five o’clock in a suite in the Savile. I had a bath and got down to the business of getting
ready,” Lydia says, recalling the start of her big day.
She opted for natural makeup and loose hair, while her bridesmaids all had neat updos. And what about the bespoke music?
“That was the most beautiful part of the wedding for me. The music was composed by Richard Gowers, an arrangement based on Katie Melua’s
Little Swallow.
The church choir was spectacular! We put a lot of emphasis on the ceremony
and generally tried to be as traditional as possible – church wedding, classic ceremony, speeches. This was partly in honour of my Grandad, who was
a very important guest,” adds the bride.
The wedding banquet was a three-course meal of truffle tortellini, guinea fowl and jam roly-poly. Given how posh everything was,
you’ll be surprised to hear that dinner came from McDonald’s.
After the wedding, the newlyweds
went back to The Newt for a weekend to commemorate their engagement,
then spent a few days at a wine estate in South Africa, but they’re still planning their proper honeymoon. We wish them a fairy-tale life!
