MILE 11

DUST OF OLD TIMES

The past is a bottomless chest of inspiration. We open it so often until the handle is groped, here we dig deeper, sometimes a few decades are enough. A wedding is one of those events that lends itself to a connection with history, whether in the form of castle or chateau interiors where the betrothed pledge their fidelity under a canopy, or dresses and accessories reminiscent of stylish times (not) long past.

THE VISTAS SHARPEN OUR EYES AND CAPTURE A FLEETING SLIVER OF THE PAST

It's as if we've enhanced the romance, transported to a time when our great-grandmothers were getting married and when everything was shrouded in a blurred veil of prettiness. At least that's how we like to idealize the old days. But there's no need to go overboard with the retro filter, just pick out the crumbs from the chest that will add glamour to the festive day. Weddings in the spirit of some of the distinctive fashions of the last century are growing in popularity among couples. We, too, have dreamed of a wedding with a touch of history. It could have taken place in the inter-war period of the 1920s or 1930s, when flowing silhouettes dominated the dress, women's shoulders were revealed for the first time and the bow tie was a common part of a gentleman's wardrobe.
